A night of fashion, food and fundraising, the Wishwas Cocktail Reception was a glamorous and giving event to say the least! Leading social entrepreneurs and executives including the Chairman of NBC, Ted Harbert, enjoyed wine and hors d’oeuvres by Devi Restaurant, desserts by Chocal8kiss, a silent auction and dances by AATMA Dance Troupe. Wishwas is a unique New York City based not-for-profit organization that provides resources for low income immigrant women to learn and use vocational skills.
We got a chance to speak with Nivedita Chandrappa, the Executive Director of Wishwas, who explained that the organization is geared towards empowering South Asian women to create their own successes. And who better than Ranjana Khan, wife of the renowned designer, Naeem Khan, who is equally talented with her successful jewelry line to represent the cause. Ranjana shared how important Wishwas to her personally as a South Asian women and that she often finds inspiration within when creating jewelry.
Naeem on the other hand discusses that he is inspired regularly by anything and everything. He graciously ended the night with a preview of his Fall 2013 collection and auctioned off a personal dinner with the designer himself that sold for a whopping $2500. Find out his best advice for aspiring designers and his personally favorite way of decorating fabric in the interview here!
