Prita Chhabra Returns to her Gerrard Street “Roots” – Festival of South Asia

Montreal born, Orlando based recording artist Prita Chhabra always has a jam packed schedule.  She is an artist who likes to be on the go and that loves opportunities to perform for her fans.  In only a few weeks, Chhabra will be performing and participating in Gerrard Street’s annual Festival of South Asia on Saturday July 6th, as a judge of the 3rd annual ‘South Asia’s Got Talent’ competition taking place from 8-10 PM.

Amazingly it has already been two years since Prita’s debut music video “Roots“, filmed outside Gerrard’s now defunct ‘Indian Record Shop’.  Still, the project continues to strike a chord with youth raised both Canadian and of their ancestral heritage – the joys and struggles to which Prita addressed in her song fusing R&B and bhangra flavors.

Roots” screened at film festivals around the world; received airplay on major news networks across North America; and garnered Prita the “Best World Music” nod at the 2011-2012 Toronto Independent Music Awards.  The music video included a 3D version as part of its release, bringing to life Gerrard Street and the video’s impressive cameos from former WWE Superstar Tiger Ali Singh, and Canadian YouTube sensation Jus Reign.

‘South Asia’s Got Talent‘ was launched in the Summer of 2011, with South Asian Canadian contestants over the past two competitions performing everything from hip-hop to opera. Prita will be joining Veronica Chail, celebrated host of “Bollywood Boulevard” on OMNI Television, as well as acclaimed Bollywood choreographer Divya Kumar, as judges for ‘South Asia’s Got Talent’.

A few days prior to the Festival of South Asia, Prita will also be performing on Monday July 1st at the 3rd annual Tigerfest Brampton, a free wrestling fundraiser organized by none other than Tiger Ali Singh and his legendary father, Tiger Jeet Singh. Tigerfest Brampton takes place as part of Brampton’s annual Canada Day Celebrations at Chinguacousy Park, which will also feature performances by Deep Jandu and Dhol Circle.

Keep it locked to UrbanAsian for all things Prita!
