On March 2, 2013 the Akshaya Patra Foundation, the world’s largest NGO-run school meal programme, hosted a charity gala in London in efforts to raise funds for unprivileged children in India. The Akshaya Patra Foundation provides nutritious meals for over 1.3 million children in 8,000 schools all over the country. Dipika Khaitan, UK Chair of the Akshaya Patra Foundation, said “The UK chapter of The Akshaya Patra Foundation has so far raised funds to provide meals in approximately 250 schools. The funds raised by peoples’ enormous generosity has been so beneficial in helping us to continue our vital work to feed and educate some of India’s poorest and deprived children. The Akshaya Patra Foundation often provides a lifeline for children to eat well, which in turn aids their educational development, which then can help them to achieve their full potential. We hope that on the evening of The Sparkle Gala we can raise funds to reach out to 300 schools and continue with our important community work.”
The Sparkle Gala rounded up a crowd of 400 in attendance at the Great Room at Vinopolis. The glamorous event was hosted by Konnie Huq, followed by a stunning fashion show by leading Designer, Anamika Khanna. A-list celebrities like Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor wear her designs. Not only has Anamika Khanna developed a following in India, but Paris as well. Anamika Khanna was one of the first Indian designers to showcase her collection at Paris Fashion Week.
