Music What's Happenin'

Usman Rehman's living his dream with debut, "Jadon Holi Jai!"

From hitting rock bottom at an early age, being homeless and suffering from severe dyslexia, Usman Rehman has risen to every single challenge put in front of him. Today he is making his dream a reality and is a testament to never giving up. In 2010, Usman Rehman who is a vocal coach and young offenders worker, declared live on radio that his dream was to cut a record with multi award winning and internationally renowned producer Rishi Rich! Today, the dream is a reality with “Jadon Holi Jai!” Check out the track!

His new single ‘Jadon Holi Jai‘, has been not only produced by Rich, Rehman now counts the producer as a fan. The Bradford born singer songwriter whose talents were spotted on YouTube video covers, has now moved to Manchester after being signed by Boiler Room Records. Young Archie, MD of the label, has nurtured, developed, and supported Usman Rehman over a two year period. In the three week period since the debut single was launched, it has been lapped up by media and fans alike with a flood of interviews and positive feedback.

Rehman’s humble nature but steely determination is not only something that he projects, it’s also his way of setting an example as a mentor for the young people he works with. Talking about his dyslexia and how music helped Rehman explains,

“When I was growing up people and teachers simply didn’t understand what dyslexia was, how to deal with it and I was left to my own devices. I knew I wasn’t the brightest in the class but I knew that I just learned in different ways. It was a very frustrating time for me and also for my family.”

Talking about leaving home, Usman Rehman says,

“My parents split when I was 14 and it was almost taboo and unheard of within the South Asian community. It was a really difficult time. There was a lot of community pressure having been cut out of social circles, so I decided to find my own path. I moved from pillar to post, from care homes to hostels until I found my feet.”

The sufi influenced singer has turned his life around and is living his dream. He sums up,

“I am incredibly grateful to the support that I am receiving from media, the music fraternity and audiences. We already have original songs in the bag and are prepared for this year musically and I look forward to sharing this with everyone.”

The single is available to buy from iTunes on the 24th January and Usman Rehman will be performing at a launch event in conjunction with Voodoo Entertainment in London on the 1st February. Be sure to keep it locked on Urban Asian to stay connected to Usman Rehman!
