One name and one amazing singer, Shweta Pandit! She has done it all at such a young age! Shweta speaks with UrbanAsian.com and our host Karn Dr. Bollywood about her journey, fame and family and how she got into singing at such a young age. We recently did an article about her latest song “I dreamed a dream” here check it out! Shweta also sat down with Dr. Bollywood and spoke about her sister Shraddah Pandit whose also a singer based in India. Shweta Pandit has belted out some amazing Bollywood tunes in movies likeMohabbatein, Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Welcome, Partner, Tell Me O Khudha, Yamla Pagla Deewana, Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, and Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl, among many others. Through songs in such movies and albums, she has showcased her range and talent to the world. The list goes on and on top of all this she has met many Hollywood actors in California! Names like Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman were inspired by her as well! Now that’s a plus on her resume!
Not only has Shweta been able to sing classical music and bollywood tracks in many different languages but she has been able to sing American tracks with a Indian twist! Quite often, when desi singers have attempted English songs, their voices sound strained and their diction is not as clear. Amazingly, Pandit’s vocal quality in this piece is crystal clear and her voice sounds flawless and smooth! She injects the right amount of emotion into the piece and truly displays her massive range.
She has toured with A.R Rahman and sang songs for many hit films in Bollywood. Recently she teamed up with her sister to do a few songs as well. We wonder and hope if a Pandit tour will be in works soon! I guess we will have to wait and see for a sister act tour! Shweta got her first big breakthrough with Yash Raj Films and Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein (2000) with 5 songs at the age of 12. She was chosen to sing in the film, after she auditioned for the final selection among almost 500 singers. Shweta created an unbreakable record then to be the youngest Bollywood singer to be launched as the singing voice for a lead actor!
