If you love Salman Rushdie’s books, there is no doubt that you must have read Rushdie’s classic, “Midnight’s Children.” The protagonist and narrator of the story is Saleem Sinai, who was born at the exact moment – midnight – on the day when India gained independence. The historical fictional novel weaves events that took place before and after India’s partition into its framework.
Fans of “Midnight’s Children” the book rejoiced upon hearing that there will be a film adaptation of the book directed by Deepa Mehta. It is sure to be as big of a classic as the book itself. The film officially opened in the UK on the 26th of December, and will be opening in India Feb 2013! Sadly, those of us in the US have to wait all the way till April 2013 to watch! For now, we have to be content with the trailer, which only leaves you wanting more!
Midnight’s Children stars Satya Bhabha (son of Homi K. Bhabha) in the role of Saleem Sinai. The film boasts of a rather incredible cast including talented actors Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas (of Bandit Queen fame), Rahul Bose, Samrat Chakrabarti (who most recently directed/produced Bumbug in NYC), Sarita Choudhary, Charles Dance, Shahana Goswami, Rajat Kapoor, and Soha Ali Khan. Take a breath because the list of talent in this amazing star cast continues: Kulbushan Kharbhanda, Anupam Kher, Anita Majumdar, Ronit Roy, Shriya Saran, Darsheel Safary (of Tare Zameen Par fame), Zaib Shaikh, and Shikha Talsania.
