*EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW* Nick Pandya says 'Be Prepared to say HOY!'

We caught up with another desiFEST performer, Nick Pandya! Nick will be performing live with his Dholi, Amar Singh at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square! Currently working on his first single and wanting to collaborate with Shankar Mahadevan, he tells us the crowd better be prepared to say HOY!

If you were to describe your music or sound in one word, what would it be?

Unique, and my music I feel describes me.

What’s your motivation or inspires you to make music? Any influences you have?

Music has always been a part of my life since birth, my motivation comes from my family who have been supporting me from the “get go”, Shankar Mahadevan has had a huge influence on me, and my music.

Have you been musically trained or where did this passion to sing come from?

I have not being classically trained in singing, but I have been classically trained in tabla for 12 years

You’re going to be performing at Canada’s largest South Asian Event, desiFEST, how excited are you about that and what are you looking forward to? What will you bring to the stage?

To be performing on this stage is honestly a dream come true, I am really excited and I cannot wait, I will be bringing a lot of different genres, for the desifest fans, and there’s also a couple of special surprises that I have planned and alongside me will be my Dholi Amar Singh, and all I have to say to the crowd is be prepared to say HOY!

Who is someone that you wish to collaborate with?

I would love to collaborate with many artists, but if I had to choose one it would be Shankar Mahadevan

Do you prefer sitting in the studio writing music, or performing in front of a live audience?

I love doing both but I feel as if I’m more of a crowd person, so I would say performing in front of live audience

What are you working on right now? Any new singles or albums coming up?

I am working on my first single which shall be out fairly soon by the end of this year.
