I had the pleasure of interviewing one of my very own classmates and good friends earlier this week! A very passionate musician, Jani, has been writing, singing, and freestyling, ever since he was in grade school. With his talent and dedication, he is most definitely someone to look out for; check below for some of his latest and my favorite pieces!

UA: Coming from a South Asian background, how do your parents feel about your passion for music?

Jani: Well actually, my parents don’t even know about the music I’ve released! My parents have heard me rap a song before though. I took an upper level poetry class last semester and we worked with many different styles of writing throughout the semester but I decided to do a rap song as my final project. I received an A on the project so I decided one random evening that I was going to show them. I was nervous but they took it well.

UA: Do you someday hope to make a career from music, or do you have other dreams and goals as well?

Jani: I would love to one day make a career in music. I’m a senior in college so if music doesn’t become my career then I always have an education on my back.

UA: Which artists have inspired you to enter the world of music?

Jani: Raxstar, Common, Big Sean, Drake, Nas, Fabolous, Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, Nipsey Hussle, Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole, Kid Ink, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, 2 Pac, Biggie, Big L and so many more!

UA: What can your fans expect to hear from you in the future? Are there any new songs you are currently working on?

Jani: My fans can expect to hear music that they can dance, laugh, love, cry, and learn from. I can’t give away any new songs that I’m working on. You’re gonna have to wait!

UA: Describe to us what your ideal life would be like ten years from now.

Jani: Hmmm…I don’t know where I will stand 10 years from now? I just hope that I am doin what I love and that I’m successful so I can live comfortably and still be able to give back to the world.

UA: Ok so I’ve got to ask this on behalf of all of the curious ladies, are you single?

Jani: Hahaha. So I gotta answer this on behalf of all the ladies, yuppp im single.

UA: How do you like living in Saint Louis? If one of our readers were to visit, are there any places or restaurants you would recommend?

Jani: I love living in STL but I’ve been in this area my whole life so I got my bags packed ready to see the world. I love all kinds of food and St. Louis is known for its food from all around the world. You’re just gonna have to take me on a date to find out.

UA: What do you like to do in your free time?

Jani: Well right now, being in school and all, freestyling and writing is what I do during my free time but besides music I like to just kick it with my crew.

UA: Are there any other things you would like your fans to know?

Jani: Im just one of you takin the time to make my many dreams come true.

A love song that I wrote and recorded on Valentines Day because I have been blessed with the love the SLU Billikens have been giving me. The perfect song to give someone you like lol 🙂

A song with profanities but I imagine chillin on the beach in Cali lol. I mention girls but I say chillin because I like to chill lol. Im not into disrespecting girls.
