Vidya Balan is all that everyone is talking about – A woman consistent in her performance and always appreciated for her acting. However, like all other great actors, Vidya Balan had to struggle to reach the top.
She began her career with television advertising and played a variety of roles. Her big break however was Parineeta, directed by Pradeep Sarkar, from Vidhu Vinod Chopra Camp. Balan had to undergo extensive auditions for a period of 6 months before she was selected to portray Parineeta.
Her performance as the idealist Lalita was acclaimed by critics all over, one by Derek Elley from Variety particularly moving saying:
“An acting revelation is Tamil newcomer Balan, whose devoted but dignified Lalita is the picture’s heart and soul.”
It can be safely said that Vidhu Vinod Chopra was responsible for Vidya Balan’s break. Her career graph from thereon has only been up. Balan is now doing her very first item number – once again her first such role – in a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production – the Sharman and Boman starrer, Ferrari Ki Sawaari.
Will this new ‘number’ add another feather in Miss Balan’s cap – that is yet to be seen!
