Congratulations to Jay Dabhi for becoming the first DJ of South Asian descent to have a mixshow on commercial pop radio in the #1 ranked New York City/Tri-state market. His legions of fans, growing by each mix, can listen to him on WXRK 92.3 NOW FM (a CBS owned radio station) Friday nights from 2-3am, Saturday nights from 3-4am and special guest spots during the weekdays.
“I love exposing listeners to the big club anthems that are huge around the world with a unique blend of current pop songs” says Jay Dabhi about his DJ style that consists of, but not limited to, Pop, Hip-Hop, and Dance music – all mixed with his own flair.
Growing up, Jay would run home from school and record mixshows on NYC radio and modeled his mixing career from radio legends such as The Latin Rascals, Red Alert, and Glenn Friscia. Over time, Jay graduated as a DJ into the elite club circuit throughout NYC where he acquired the respect of other upper echelon radio & club DJs.
92.3 NOW asked him to do a mini-mix for a time slot on Memorial Day Weekend 2011 and were blown away by the results. Soon after, they opened up a time slot for Jay on their Saturday Night Dance Factory show.
“It’s crazy to me – There are kids out there listening to me and aspiring to be DJ’ing on the radio just like I did when I was young. DJ’ing on the radio is a dream come true.”
As a staunch supporter of the South Asian music scene, Jay Dabhi is in a position to give artists of South Asian descent an audience of a potential 16 million listeners.
“With the right record, I can give an artist from my community the chance to be heard on one of the largest pop stations in America! Keep the good music coming!”
Keep it locked on URBAN ASIAN for a big surprise that includes Jay Dabhi! 😉
