UK readying for the Clash Of The Titans 2011

It’s no secret, India and Pakistan have one of the greatest sports rivalries in the world. While most of us are busy enjoying summer, these two nations are gearing up for two big meets. Billed as the “Clash of the Titan’s” the Asian sub-continent’s most powerful sides will meet on September 3 at Pride Park Stadium (Derby) and on September 9th in Glasgow.

In addition to the football excitement, the event is set to feature some Asian artists to keep the mood enjoyable.  Some of the names set ti headline this match are Jazzy B, Dr. Zeus, Aman Hayer, Jaz Dhami, ADH, Gabru Punjab De Folk Bhangra Dancers, among many others.  Sonia Deol (BBC Asian Network presenter) is set to keep the energy of the crowd up.

If this hot line-up and match pairing isn’t enough to get you to go, I’ve got one more reason for you that will change your mind.  England’s very own Manchester United defender  is backing the game.  He shares with us, “I am welcoming the India and Pakistan teams to the home of football.  This is a major breakthrough for both nations and I hope to see myself in Indian ad Pakistan soon.”  The entire English FA has also backed this match, hoping to increase participation from the Asian community.

WBA and IBF light-welterweight world champion, Amir Khan, is also looking forward to the match.  “Football is one of the most popular sports amongst the Asian community in Britain and this match will prove to be very successful because of that.  I’m sure that these matches will also be very beneficial for relations between the two countries because sport plays an important role in helping to unify people.  I’m very excited about these games because it’s always thrilling to see two rivals go up  against one another.”

Gurinder Chadha, who sparked further interest amongst Indians in football with her blockbuster Bend It Like Beckham is also pumped for the match-up, saying  “I will be shouting Bend it like my Bhaiya’s, Bhaijans, and Bros.”  Other artists like A1 Grand Prix champion Adam Khan, who is of Pakistani decent added: “It’s great to see these two nations playing head to head on an international platform – I can’t wait.”
