Music What's Happenin'

Priya says hit that "Light Switch!"

Priya is the new girl on the scene bent on starting a revolution! The multi-talented starlet defied the Desi societal expectations by leaving her Doctorate in Pharmacy program at the prestigious St. John’s University in New York for a more musical option! Talk about courage!

The New Jersey native took her time to create her unique sound by getting completely involved in both writing and composing her tracks because she didn’t want to be another cookie cutter pop star. Priya plans on creating her own revolution of music, lyrics, fashion and her Indian culture.

Her new single, “Light Switch” was produced by Larry Friday from Elefant Haus Studios in Freehold, New Jersey. The music video was directed by Calvan Fowler of Daydream Filmworks in New York, of course Priya was involved in the concept of the video as well she wanted something different nothing like the typical background dancers club bangers.

“It was the most fun I have ever had in a recording session! I wanted to make a catchy, club friendly sexy anthem to put out there to the masses,” said Priya. “I’m really grateful that it’s been well received by the fans and I’m looking forward to the release of more music throughout the year. The creation process of my music is very carefully crafted and never a rushed process. I will never put out a product that I am not in love with! The video was soooo much fun to make! It was my first ever music video so of course there were a few nerves but I had a great team supporting me.”

As the daughter of a Reverend Priya traces her musical roots to the church where she grew up singing contemporary gospel in the choir and praise team. When she started attending St. John’s Priya’s mother unfortunately was fighting with breast cancer, and Priya used music as an outlet for her pain. Of course she was criticized by her family and community when she finally left school to pursue her music.

Priya met Q-Tip’s front man guitarist and music producer Chris Sholar at that time who was so impressed by her he decided to producer tracks for her demo entitled “A Colorful Breakup” which created quite a buzz. She’s even trained with celebrity vocal coach Ankh Ra Amen Hetep from MTV’s hit show “Making the Band,” and has collaborated with many well-acclaimed producers and songwriters. Priya’s proof that hard work and never giving up on your dreams pays off!

Recently she’s even been offered a music licensing deal from Sir Groovy, she’s working on her new album AND taking a small tour through the NYC area this summer and fall to promote her revolution! Do you plan on joining Priya?
