Canadian recording artist Prita Chhabra helped usher in South Asian Heritage Month this May with the release of her debut music video “Roots.
Prita has made history as the first solo recording artist of South Asian heritage, and one of the first Canadian musicians, to release a 3D edition of her music video – inviting the world to enjoy her video’s Gerrard St. shoot location (Toronto’s “Little India”) like never before. An urban version of the video was also shot featuring a guest appearance by former chart-topping Middle Eastern Canadian rapper Imaan Faith – both “Roots” singles which are available now on iTunes as of May 1, boasting a head-turning CD cover.
Prita has done a different video being her first, it has a great message as she sings about her Roots and her music, behind connected no matter where you come from. Quite fitting considering Tiger Jeet Singh Jr. also makes an impressive acting cameo in Prita’s “Roots” video, as does comedian Jus Reign (one of Canada’s top ten most viewed comics online with over 7 million YouTube views) and Miss India Canada 2010 Anchal Sharma – among many other notable South Asian Canadian personalities.
Tornotos dhol player, Bunny joins her in front of a Desi music store, when an uncle refuses to sell her album, she gets everyone involved in the streets and then what happens next, does the owner decide to sell the album?
Well you will just have to find out! Check out Roots, let us know what you think? Are you connected to your Roots?
