It is with great pleasure that we here at Urban Asian introduce to you G-Deep’s latest video off his O’Billo album called “Mahi Mera.” The song – written and performed by G-Deep – reveals a more somber G-Deep than the hyper G-Deep we are used to!
The lyrics are inspired by legendary Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi. However, they would not be the same with G-Deep, who truly breathes soul into these heartfelt lyrics. The song takes you on journey through the full cycle of a relationship: love, separation, heartbreak and devotion. It should be interpreted as a message to a lost love, yearning for connection to one’s God or about separation between friends.
This song is the first in a series of collaborations between G-Deep and Ranbir S. who is currently in the studio working on the acoustic and drum n’ bass mixes for “Mahi Mera”. If this song is any indication, then the remixes will be just as amazing.
Director Hemant Tavathia states – “For the music video, we wanted a beautiful world neglected by time, like the heroine of the song neglected by her lover. We stayed away from the typical shoot-in-an-old warehouse formula. The locations we ended up selecting had objects with character and age. Each location oozed with a sense of nostalgia which was perfect for our themes. We divided each frame with soft vertical lines (trees, stable walls, etc), or objects in foreground. Subconsciously, this gives the viewer a feeling of stored up potential energy in frail objects. Enjoy!”
