Bollywood Indian TV Music What's Happenin'

Kaun Banega Lakhpati?

Superstar Hrithik Roshan recently appeared on Zee TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa: Singing Superstars to promote his new movie, Guzaarish.  If you’re thinking, “So? What does that have to do w/Lakhs?” Let me answer that for you right now.  Hrithik gave away 7 Lakh (700,000 Rs.) by the end of the airing of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa!  He had intended to give a check only to the best singer of the night: “I thought I will give one check to the best singer of the evening… but looking at this pool of talent, I can’t help but reward all of them with whatever little I can,” Hrithik said on the show.  With each song he heard, he was more and more blown away by the talent displayed by the contestants.  So, he ended up giving a 1 Lakh check to each contestants – there are 7 total right now.

The contestants are confused what to do with the check – do they cash it or save it as a memory (plus, Hrithik’s autograph is on it!).  One contestant who sang a song from Hrithik’s “Guzaarish” – Abhilasha, said she’s facing just this problem. “I’m in two minds. I don`t know what to do with the check – should I encash it or preserve it for the life time for generations to see!!!” she said excited.  I’m sure this conundrum of what to do with the check is harder for the girls than the guys on the show.  After all, Hrithik is one of the reigning heartthrobs of Bollywood!

Hrithik not only gave away the money, but also sang for the contestants – a rare event indeed!  The judges on the show were impressed by his voice and suggested that he sing more often in his movies.  During the show, Hrithik reflected regarding his giving away of the lakhs: “Aaj jitna mera bank balance kam huya hai… ussse kayi zyada main apne dil mein leke ja raha hoon (Whatever effect of this gesture has happened on my bank balance, I am taking much more than that in my heart from this platform)”

Hrithik proved that he’s a triple threat in the world of Bollywood: hot, talented, and generous!  What do you think readers?
