Shimla Mirchi (the film) is all about Avinash played by Rajkummar Rao who is waiting for the girl of his life and hesitates to propose to any girl.

In his life enters Naina played by Rakul Preet Singh – who is cute and bubbly and has a single mother played by Hema Malini – who is sad and depressed.

The film starts with Rajkummar Rao’s character trying to say ‘I love you’ to a girl. But he starts stammering as he is too scared to do that. He tries to confess his love for Rakul Preet but fails and decides to write a letter to her. This is where the story takes a twist. Rakul’s single mother Hema Malini receives the letter and falls in love with Rajkummar, thinking that he loves her back. What follows next are hilarious scenes showing how the misunderstanding affects the lives of Rao, Malini and Singh.

One should watch this film to know about the hilarious goof up and also to know the unexpected ending. The director Ramesh Sippy after a long delay of five years has finally released the story. It is a great attempt to a different concept but however five years is a long time and now there are many more new stuff in the market. The best part is as the film passes by, the audience will definitely build interest in the story. It has many ups and downs that will make you laugh, emotional as well as take you on a different journey.

The camera work is great, some parts of the film should not have been there. But rest everything will build you up for the finale. The comic timing of the characters is amazing. The film is shot in Shimla and has beautifully matched up with the title.

Talking about the performances, Malini as usual is magical on-screen – you can’t get your eyes off her when she is on-screen, she was the perfect choice for the role. Rajkummar does a good job as the guy who is shy and hesitate in saying things. Rakul Preet Singh as Naina somehow was low in her character. She did her work well but much more is expected out of her.

The film also stars Shakti Kapoor and Kanwaljit Singh in pivotal roles. These guys have done their job. All the other characters have performed well.

The film is a fun watch and you can enjoy your weekend with this film. We give this film 2.5 stars.
