The film is set in Gurgaon and Noida, showcasing the underbelly of the political criminal underworld in New Delhi. The plot shifts between Harika and Haddi’s stories through flashbacks throughout the film, intertwining their varying experiences. Anurag Kashyap and Ila Arun also star in the film in supporting roles, and it is directed by Akshat Ajay Sharma.

Siddiqui gives one of his career best performances in this film, especially when showing the nuances between playing Harika and Haddi. He does an incredible job in showing the differences between dressing up as a woman, and being a transgender woman, as Haddi dresses up as a woman several times throughout the film after he is embedded into a transgender criminal gang. There are stark behavioral differences that the viewer can see between Haddi when he dresses up as a woman, and Harika identifying as and being a woman, which can be attributed to Siddiqui’s prowess as an actor.

Although the plot of the film is a bit confusing at times, mainly due to the shifts between Harika and Haddi’s characters’ storylines, director Sharma does a great job capturing the beauty of the transgender community in India, and brings their representation to the forefront through ‘Haddi’. For the viewer, it’s incredibly interesting to see the differences between the transgender criminal gang, and Harika’s transgender community, and demonstrates just how important support is for the LGBTQ+ community.

‘Haddi’ is now streaming globally on Zee5 Global!
