Good Newwz – the last release of 2019 – end the year on a funny note. This comedy film is about two couples who share the same surname and get into a soup when the ‘spams’ (Honey Batra’s vocab not mine) get mixed during the in vitro fertilization process.

The film follows a city, career oriented couple – Varun Batra (Akshay Kumar) and Deepti Batra (Kareena Kapoor Khan) – who are trying hard to conceive a child. They approach an IVF clinic in hopes of conceiving. Hell breaks loose when their sperm in fertilized with the “other Batra’s” egg and not Deepti’s.

Then enters Honey (Diljit Dosanjh) and Monika Batra (Kiara Advani) – the stereotypical loud Punjabi couple. This couple too are trying for a child for years and approached the same clinic. Owing to the same surnames the mistake takes place.

What follows in the second half is how the couple deal with it, especially the city Batras trying to get rid of the Chandigarh one.
Talking about performances, all four of the lead actors along with the fertility doctors Mr & Mrs Joshi (Adil Hussain, Tisca Chopra) are good in their roles.

The songs, even though are loud, do not deter you from the plot and infact engross you more into it. Raj Mehta does a good job with the direction in his debut. The cinematography isn’t over the top of the film.

While Akshay and Kareena ease in the roles of the stuck up, career oriented city people, Diljit and Kiara make a place in your heart with their innocence and beauty. Adil and Tisca add comic as well as emotional elements to the film.

A drawback of the film is that Diljit and Kiara have well little screen time in comparison to the other Batras. Now only are they given less time, not much od shown of them as well.

Overall, the film is a good watch with friends this weekend. End this year on a funny note with Good Newwz.

We give Good Newwz 3.5 stars.
