Each and every child has a dream in the corner of their mind like what they wish to become, what they want in life and their big wish list. As that child grows up, their ‘wish list’ becomes bigger and bold which they want to fulfill.
In the film, it is well said that the father is the selfish one who always sacrifices everything he has just for his child. Angrezi Medium is all about the bond of a father-daughter. It about how a father goes crosses borders just to get a good education for his child.
Angrezi Medium starts in Rajasthan’s Udaipur. A sweet-shop owner, Champak Bansal (Irrfan) is a single parent, raising his daughter Tarika (Radhika Madan), who’s at the cusp of turning 18 and wants to study in England.
The two share an endearing, harmonious relationship that carries an emotional authenticity which Adajania establishes with great economy: within the film’s first 20 minutes. Also, it showcased that the Champak right from his childhood is a confused kid and he somehow manages to select the right choices for everything.
On the other hand, Tarika harbours the dream of going abroad ever since she was a little girl. However, she’s an average student but through sheer determination, she aces her finals which earn her a scholarship in a prestigious London university.
However, her father’s embroilment in a legal battle with his brother (Deepak Dobriyal) over the name of the sweet shop – Ghaseetaram – unintentionally effects Tarika’s chance to go abroad. Now, if she wants to go abroad, it’d be at the family’s expense and not a school scholarship.
In this story there are lots of things that you will get to see – there is hilarious comedy between the brothers, despite having differences they drink together and create messes. Also, you will relate to the little moments shared between the father and daughter – especially the scene when she arrives late home and the father is waiting for her.
Director Homi Adajania has done a fab job in making such a beautiful film. His work is truly remarkable and can be seen in the simplicity of the story. The film is shot in different location but it has showcasing all sorts of culture in it – both Indo and western. He has done so by showing how people think nowadays by showcasing characters like Officer Naina (Kareena Kapoor Khan) and her mother Mrs. Kohli (Dimple Kapadia).
The only thing in the film is that the first half is a little extended and you might feel that it should have been short. But then the second half of the film will take over your mood with its awesomeness. Especially the climax scene in the film, where while in the car Irrfan takes this head out of the window and feels that this was the third right choice he has made in life. What was the choice is why you need to watch the film.
Also, the end dialogue of the film, ‘Ek waqt ke baad bache ki ungli chodna zaruri hota hai, taki usse gale laga sake’ is worth claps and whistles.
We can not say it’s a comeback for Irrfan Khan, because he is never gone. You will still get that chills and feeling as you get in every character he does. This one is definitely going to make you emotional. His bond with Tarika might make you remember your father. The sacrifices he did for his daughter will touch your heart and during some scenes, he will make you cry.
Deepak Dobriyal is the perfect partner in crime and a true brother for sure. He always masters the art of being someone else and the audience will relate to him too. One of the reasons to watch the film is his performance as Gopi Chacha.
If we look at the new sweet kid in town, its Tarika Bansal – our lovely Radhika is just magical on-screen. Not even for a second will you feel she is not a teenager. She has immersed herself into her character completely that even if she cries you will feel her like a cute kid 😍
The other characters in the film, Kareena Kapoor Khan will make you realise the importance of a family. Her role is such that you will find her rude at the start and then it’s Bebo, in the end, she will definitely melt your heart.
Dimple Kapadia is the perfect choice for Nania’s mother in the film. She absolutely looks like her mother for real! The legendary actress is the best part of the cast.
There is also a baddie in the film – Bablu (Ranvir Shorey), who frauds everyone in the film and later realises his mistake. His performance in the film is super good and you will love to watch him too.
Taking about the cameo appearance in the film, the character Tony played by Pankaj Tripathi will make you laugh saying, ‘ye koi saree ki dukan nahi hai’. You will laugh at this once you will see the film.
Last but not least Kiku Sharda who always make us laugh with his jokes on Television is a total surprise packet in the film. The one who will unveil all the hidden secrets between the brothers, the one who will take care of Tarika when things are worst.
We, with all our heart, give Angrezi Medium 3.5 stars. You can watch this film this week and enjoy your day with family.
