Fresh off our screens having just starred in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘The Archies’, Dot returns with her newest single ‘Girls Night’. Also known as Aditi Saigal- Dot is a Gen Z Indian artist whose musical journey has transcended cultural and geographical boundaries. Dot’s deep connection to music and the arts, coupled with her rise as a self-made singing sensation, has led her to the United Kingdom, where her melodic odyssey began.
Dot’s UK journey commenced with academic pursuits at the University of Bangor, Wales, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music and creative writing. This academic phase enriched her musical journey, nurturing her artistic spirit. Dot’s multifaceted talent extends beyond music, as evidenced by her inclination towards writing during her graduation, reflecting her innate storytelling abilities through her songs and fostering her passion for creative expression.
Rising to fame with her viral internet song ‘Everybody Dances to Techno,’ Dot recently released an album titled ‘Practice Rooms.’ This compilation encapsulates the raw essence of her earlier musical endeavours, stemming from open mic nights at her Welsh university. Crafted during her days at the University of Bangor, Wales, these melodies were recorded in practice rooms using a piano and an old phone. Motivated by a desire to share her musical evolution, ‘Practice Rooms’ provides a window into Dot’s creative journey, capturing the essence of Welsh landscapes and the emotional nuances of youth, heartbreak, and friendships. The album’s lyrics echo the seaside ambience of Bangor, reflecting vivid experiences from her university life.
After her debut extended play, “Khamotion,” in July 2021, Dot collaborated with Welsh singles producer/writers at Playbook Records, releasing the mesmerizing single “Indigo” in 2023. This marked the inception of a musical collaboration that embraced her genre-blending sounds. Dot has recently re-collaborated with Playbook Records for her new single audio ‘Girls Night,’ which has received much love.
Continuing her educational voyage, Dot is currently pursuing an MSc in Education from the University of Glasgow. Her unexpected foray into acting came to fruition when director Zoya Akhtar noticed her songs on YouTube. Cast in the multi-debutante film ‘The Archie’s,’ Dot’s journey into acting commenced during a Zoom call collaborating on the song ‘Asymmetrical,’ where Zoya asked her if she could act and audition for the film. Surprisingly, this happened while Dot was still in the United Kingdom, and from there, there was no looking back.
