#NoSurbhiNoIshqbaaaz garners 126K tweets within 5 hours!
Star Plus’s digital juggernaut, Ishqbaaaz, achieved a feat bar none today. Since Tuesday, social media has been abuzz with the news that the show was preparing for a generation leap with most of the cast departing, including Surbhi Chandna. Earlier this morning, Gul Khan was quoted to have confirmed the generation leap, with the media further adding that Surbhi Chandna would indeed be leaving the show. What followed was a maelstrom on social media platforms, in particular, Twitter.
Without planning a trend, #NoSurbhiNoIshqbaaaz managed to trend for three hours straight (and is still continuing), with 125k Tweets within 5 hours. The hashtag trended not only across India but in the UK, Saint-Denis in France, Dubai, Cairo and Alexandria as well as in selected locations in the US, Bangladesh and Singapore. Ishqbaaaz has managed to trend across 18 states as well as one union territory within India.
Ishqbaaaz is trending with a monumental 120K tweets with an average of 610 tweets per minute.
It managed to outdo do many other events today in terms of the total number of Tweets and on occasion even overshadowed the much awaited Deepika and Ranveer wedding. The trend managed to garner the attention of many high profile journalists, who also supported the campaign.
The surge in Surbhi Chandna’s popularity has been meteoric, from the audience initially being apprehensive in accepting her as Annika to today when the entire fandom has united as one to rally behind her. All of which is just testimony to her contribution to Ishqbaaaz’s success. While the situation on the Ishqbaaaz sets is still unclear to many, it is clear that the show will have an uphill struggle should the show move forward sans Surbhi Chandna.
