Singing sensation and artist of International fame Soumita Saha releases the trailer of her Independence Day Project Vande Mataram Mantra Gaan. The ace artist is seen painting ‘Bharat Maata’ in the music video. Art Patrons know about Abanindranath Tagore’s Bharat Mata Painting which created a buzz in 1905. Soumita’s Bharat Mata is acrylic-based fusion folk art.

Vande Mataram- Mantra gaan bears a history of its own. Vande Maataram is a poem written in highly Sanskritized Bengali by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in the 1870s, which he included in his 1882 Bengali novel Anandamath. ‘Vande Mataram’ is well known as the National Song of our country. The utterance of the words ‘Vande Mataram’ gave freedom fighters and the common public the strength to withstand lathi blows on their heads and whiplashes on their open bodies. The issue of Vande Mataram, a hymn taken from Bankim Chandra Chatterjee’s historical novel Ananda Math, being made the national song of India left the mind of the nation deeply fissured in the late 1930s. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Vande Mataram was first set to tune in Raga Malhar by Yadu Bhatta. It is presumed that around 1884 Rabindranath Tagore had set tune first two stanzas of Vande Mataram based on Raga Desh. The rest of the stanzas were set to tune by his sister Sarala Devi.

Rabindranath Tagore sang Vande Mataram for the first time during the Calcutta Congress session in 1896 in Yadu Bhatta’s tune while Aurobindo Ghosh took charge of the editorial of Bande Mataram, a nationalist daily, sometime in 1905 when Bengal was aflame with anger against the British regime’s decision to partition the province on communal lines. History does provide evidence that Vande Mataram has received a considerable backlash from the Muslim community – many have objected that the song carries anti-Muslim connotations. The song went on to become a war cry during the partition of Bengal in 1905 and soon graduated to become fiercely emblematic of the freedom struggle. However, during that time the tension between the Muslims and Hindus began becoming seemingly palpable. Decades later, Jinnah echoed his inhibitions. Refusing to embrace Vande Mataram as national But Tagore noted that the first two stanzas of the written five, had no religious connotations. Thereafter Tagore’s rendition of Vandemataram that was composed in Raga Desh consisted of only the first two stanzas.

Tagore’s rendition is a much slower-paced one than what we are used to hearing now. The version by Tagore was composed totally based on Raga Desh maintaining the Rhythm of Tritaal. This version of Vandemataram is Popularly known as “Mantra Gaan”.

Popular singing sensation Soumita Saha after the release of the official Poster recently released the official trailer of her rendition of Vandemataram which has been scheduled to release around Independence day. Melotunes records are in charge of releasing the song. Music Rearrangement has been done by Arindam Bhadra popularly known by his Nickname Bumba. Soumita shall be seen Painting “Bharat Mata” in her music video which makes this music video unique.
” Back in 2009, my father Swapan Saha taught me this version of Vandemataram. I feel the history of this song is inspiring and I feel privileged to have recorded the song. Ever since I took an interest in recording this song, I concentrated on reading various books. One of the books that I would love to mention is certainly Vandemataram – the biography of a song by Sabyasachi Bhattacharya.

I am literally thankful to Bumba Da( Arindam Bhadra ) for his contribution to this project. Without his inputs Vandemataram- Mantra gaan would have never been a cakewalk. ” added Soumita. Soumita who has released some of the praiseworthy Indo-French Collaboration on Tagore with French musician Greg Sauzet is currently busy with some of the original compositions.
