South Africa: Richard Brokensha releases brand new single, "Honey", ft. Carla Louw

Richard Brokensha releases brand new single, “Honey”, ft. Carla Louw. “Honey” was written in Nijmegen. On the border of The Netherlands and Germany.

Richard shared his thoughts behind the song:

“I wrote the song during a tour, in my hotel room at a retreat in a mystical wooded forest. I wanted to create a song with a blues themed guitar riff and based this idea on a Jimi Hendrix intro, to the song “Little Wing”.

Above all, The song speaks about being in love with someone in a sensual way. The feeling of completely giving into someone who you certainly adore. Lyrically I wanted the collaboration to show it from the female and male perspective, and so this is how I arranged the vocals in the song.

“For a long time I had been speaking to a good friend and incredible singer in Cape Town, Carla Louw, whom I wanted to produce or collaborate with. I felt this song would work well with her style of singing so I asked her to take a listen. She loved it, so when I finished recording the song at my studio, I got Carla in to record her parts.”

The Music video

The video was directed by Hugo Brand at 3 different locations over 3 days in Cape Town. We filmed in 2 luxury villas at Ellerman House in Bantry Bay. As well as The Fugard Theatre for the drum shots of Donovan Bosman.

“One thing I have always dreamt of is performing a guitar solo with the vast ocean in the background. We managed to achieve this on the shoot thanks to the incredible views that Ellerman House offers. Honey has been one of my favourite song experiences so far. The process from initial idea in Nijmegen to the finished video shoot in Cape Town has been an incredible collaborative effort.”

“Remember to explore love as much as you can, while you have it, and when you don’t have it, never stop searching for love, because ultimately it is the meaning life”.

URBAN ASIAN REVIEW:
The song is spectacular. The simultaneously strong vocals between Richard Carla is extremely soothing. As you know, we are a big fan of instrumentals. The guitar work is impeccable! Great work on the instrumentals. Hence, my immense love for the track. It brought back the sensual feeling of love and unity  between a male and female. The video is perfectly depicting the descriptive nature behind the song. I love how minimalistic yet well-structured the video is. South Africa has yet again proved itself well in terms of music. The vocal to instrumental ratio is flawless, we are able to hear the talent in their vocal chords as well as instruments. Perfectly balanced!
