The world of music is always in the search of a new voice that can capture the hearts of listeners. The hugely-talented Japjit Kaur is all set to become that new voice! However, she isn’t new to the industry and actually dominated the stage with her powerful vocals, with her first theater job almost 10 years ago! Now, she is ready to release her highly-anticipated debut single ‘Jalte Hain Dil’. Born in Delhi, Japjit now resides in London, where she has been performing as a singer-songwriter for many years. Taking inspiration from both Indian classical and Bollywood music, Kaur pens her lyrics in various languages.
There’s plenty to enjoy about the brand new single from this highly acclaimed singer. It has an ultra-catchy memorable tune, great meaningful lyrics, and the production is second to none! What truly takes the song to a new level is the angelic voice of Japjit Kaur. The Indian classically trained singer-songwriter raises the bar with this refreshing and toe-tapping track that is showing all the hallmarks of becoming a massive hit.
Japjit’s debut single Jalte Hain Dil is not what you would expect from the singer with the big ballad voice. Produced under Buzz-erk Records, her new track explores the pop-rock genre for the very first time. Built off the success of songs like Ur Jaa, Sapano Se Pucho and Baavaria, all written and performed by Kaur for the award-winning and critically acclaimed British composer and musician Niraj Chag, Jalte Hain Dil delivers an upbeat modern tune, juxtaposed against a stylish retro video that features Japjit in a double role.
The song is infectiously fun and entertaining, yet the lyrics and video suggest a more serious and dark undertone. Depicting a strained relationship between a man and woman and her mother-in-law, the brilliantly shot video by the award winning AJ Chag, is a subversive and contradictory portrayal of the song but has a large dose of comedy and humor that makes it interesting and compulsive viewing.
Having been appointed Music Director in 2007 for the Olivier award-winning play ‘Rafta Rafta‘ at the Royal National Theatre, she has since worked on the stage as a singer-songwriter as well as an actor. Kaur has performed nationally with internationally renowned Sadlers Wells, World Stages, Royal Shakespeare Company, Theatre Royal Stratford East and West Yorkshire Playhouse. She has been touring with the classical super-group Svara Kantisince 2010 and also internationally with her latest project Nirbhaya, the winner of ‘Amnesty International Freedom of Speech Award’, ‘The Fringe First Award’ and ‘The Herald Angel Award’ where she plays the lead role.
