A tribute to 100 years of Hindi Cinema by NYC Filmmakers!

New York City-based filmmakers Raashi Desai and Siddhi Sundar are pleased to announce the release of their first co-production, 100: The Tribute – a novel, pulsating, first of its kind tribute to 100 Years of Hindi Cinema. Born out of the void in celebrating one of the largest film franchises in the world, 100: The Tribute takes its viewers on a thrilling, foot tapping, musically charged journey through ten decades of Indian cinema. The 20-minute short film begins in 1913, the year the first Indian movie Raja Harischandra was released. The quintessential Hindi film Hero (Ankur Rathee) falls in forbidden love with the quintessential Heroine (Anuja Joshi), spiting the Villain (Vivek Kumar) and setting off the chase of a century. The three characters take the avatars of the most prominent actors and actresses in the history of Mumbai cinema as they move through the decades. The characters do not age, only the world that surrounds them, to immortalize love as a universality in 100 years of filmmaking.

The film brings together a diversely talented, multicultural team of students and professionals whose academic and professional affiliations include NYU’s prestigious Tisch School of the Arts, Princeton University, Rutgers University, The School of Visual Arts, Magnolia Pictures, Yash Raj Films, IM Global, 30 Rock, Boardwalk Empire, and more. The production marks the largest student-professional film collaboration in South Asian arts to date, and the first project of its sort led by female directors.

Funded entirely on a crowd-sourced budget, the film was shot at a variety of locations in New Jersey that were magically transformed by the production design team to represent the various decades of Indian cinema. The premiere was held in New York City on May 16th and now it is released worldwide online.

Drop us a comment and tell us what you think of the tribute as these students put 100 years of Cinema into one video which captures Bollywood Cinema overall!
