Shenu Aujla – Capturing Life’s Moments, One Frame at a Time

Shenu Aujla is a photographer who has been working in the field for over 6 years and specializes in newborn maternity and family portraits! Originally from India, Shenu’s entrepreneurial journey is one to admire.

A little about her journey as we interviewed her:

1. What inspires your photography style and approach?

My photography is inspired by true emotions and genuine human connections. I believe we are blessed every day to share life with our loved ones—and those who live far from family often value this even more deeply. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with families again and again, which creates such meaningful bonds. My approach is always soft, family-oriented, and led by the people in front of my lens—whether it’s a newborn, an expecting mother, or an entire family. I follow their pace, making sure everyone feels comfortable and has fun throughout the process.

2. Can you walk us through your creative process when working on a project?

Every session begins with listening. I want to understand my clients’ story, their vision, and what truly matters to them. From there, I create mood boards and prepare concepts that reflect their personalities. For newborns and families, I design calm, cozy setups, while for toddlers and children, I make the atmosphere playful and lighthearted. On the day of the session, I blend gentle direction with candid observation, leaving space for natural interactions. Those spontaneous moments are what become timeless memories.

3. How do you stay current with the latest trends and techniques in photography?

Photography is both an art and a constant evolution. I stay current by investing in ongoing education, studying lighting and editing trends, and observing changes in client preferences. I also follow the luxury portrait market to ensure my work feels fresh yet timeless. That said, I don’t chase every passing trend—my focus is on creating images that will always remain classic.

4. Can you tell us about your latest project? What was the concept, and how did you bring it to life?

One of the greatest joys of my work is documenting families year after year. My most recent project was a little girl’s first birthday where we made a video for her along with some portraits, videos make a huge difference! For this session the theme was – The Big One Adventure with a Hot air balloon, clouds and big smiles.

5. How do you approach working with clients or subjects in your photography?

With people, authenticity matters—you can’t fake it. Families, especially children, sense your energy immediately. That’s why I put so much effort into building trust, creating comfort, and being patient. Not every session goes exactly as planned—children have moods, parents may feel camera-shy—but patience and kindness bring out real emotions. My approach is always gentle, empathetic, and people-first.

6. How did you get started in photography, and what motivated you to pursue it as a career?

I’ve always had a camera in hand—whether capturing food, sunsets, or everyday moments. But it wasn’t until I met my husband that I truly pursued this as a career. He recognized my eye for detail and encouraged me to take photography full-time. Since 2022, I’ve photographed hundreds of families, brands, and events, and there’s been no looking back. Photography isn’t just my career—it’s my calling.

7. What do you enjoy most about photography, and what do you find most challenging?

What I love most is the privilege of witnessing life’s most tender milestones—new beginnings, first breaths, joyful celebrations—and turning them into heirlooms for families. The most challenging part is balancing the creative artistry with the demands of running a business. But I see that challenge as a gift—it keeps me learning, growing, and evolving.

8. What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or exhibitions you’re excited about?

I’m thrilled to be expanding into weddings, including those of people close to me. We’re also beginning to travel internationally, with upcoming projects in Jamaica, India, Mexico, and Italy. Each new opportunity is both humbling and exciting.

9. How do you see your photography evolving in the future?

I began this journey alone, but now we’ve grown into a small but passionate team—a cinematographer, an editor, a social media manager, a business manager, and myself as the head photographer. Together, we’re building something bigger than I ever imagined. My vision is to become one of the most trusted family photographers in Canada and beyond, creating meaningful, luxury portraits that families will cherish for generations.
