Ridhi Mehra Sekhri’s label ‘Ridhi Mehra’ is renowned for its minimalistic, understated designs, colours, and fine embroidery for demi-couture.
Ridhi’s ‘Adorne’ collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2017 was inspired by the beauty and intricate interiors of Islamic domes. Aimed at the bride and her entourage during the wedding festivities, the collection was an intense study in prints and embellishments.
Known for her innovative techniques, Ridhi presented printed, handmade, fabric stripes ingeniously woven together. The delicate bugle beads were turned into jaalis, while scallop print patches, fringes and tantalizing metallic and fabric tassels added oomph to the ensembles.
To highlight the demi-couture nature of the garments, Ridhi introduced laser cutwork on leatherette with metallics; splashes of butas with laser cut mirror effect sheets and tonal leatherette laser cut patches to highlight prints.
On a colour card of midnight black, ivory, champagne, millennial pink, rust, orange, slate grey and red, Ridhi dreamt up silhouettes that would be ideal bridal wear options.
Ruffled asymmetric anarkalis vied for attention with multi-tiered layered lehengas. Capes came down the ramp edged with faux ostrich feathers, while more uber-glam creations floated in quick succession.
For ensembles so grand, the fabric base had to be lush as Chanderi, pure silk, pashmina, satin, suede and tulle, merged to enhance the bridal wear quotient.
The drama came in the form of black palazzos with an intriguing tasselled top. The intricately crafted black bralet with swirling lehenga/dupatta, daintily beaded cape, choli with long tasseled sleeves, paneled lehenga, white batwing sleeved, embroidered long line kurta, and the trio of the bustier, embellished paneled lehenga with dupatta were the eye-catchers of the show.
The beaded poncho with a pastel pink sari, the lilac bell-bottom pants with a beaded cropped top and the feathered blouse were grand. Intense bead work has always been Ridhi’s forte and she allowed it to add glamorous accents to her designs. The final line of red stunning creations, some with plunge ‘V’ necklines and sensuous tassel designs were true conversation starters.
Bollywood beauty Malaika Arora made a show-stopping entry in sheer, red, tulle, jumpsuit lavishly covered with tassels and a seductive long trail with beaded fringing.
When it comes to choosing bridal wear for the important day in her life, the bride and her entourage will look resplendent in Ridhi Mehra Sekhri’s ‘Adorne’ creations.
