Soumita Saha Paints Romance in Colours with New Single Gulzaari

Singer–composer Soumita Saha returns with a vibrant musical offering this spring. Her latest single Gulzaari, released by Melotunes Records, blends semi-classical sensibilities with a contemporary EDM soundscape. Timed around the spirit of Holi, the song celebrates love, colours, and the poetic blooming of emotions.

Penned, composed, arranged and sung by Soumita herself, Gulzaari stands as a testament to her evolving artistic voice—where tradition meets modern rhythm.

In a candid chat, the artist opens up about the inspiration behind the song, her creative process, and the emotion she hopes listeners will carry with them.

“Gulzaari” is a beautiful and intriguing title. What does the word mean to you and how did the song originate?

“Gulzaari evokes the imagery of a blooming garden—where colours, fragrance and emotions coexist. For me, it represents the blossoming of love and the intoxication of spring. The song came from that exact feeling—the way Holi transforms the air around us into something joyful and romantic. I wanted to capture that moment when love feels like colours dissolving into each other.”

The track blends semi-classical elements with EDM. What inspired this fusion?

“I’ve always believed music should be fluid. My roots are strongly connected to semi-classical melodies, but I also love contemporary textures. With Gulzaari, I wanted to retain the emotional depth of classical phrasing while giving it an energetic, pulsating arrangement through EDM. It’s like tradition dancing with modernity.”

Spring is often associated with celebration and romance. How does the song connect with the festival?

“Holi has a certain poetry to it—the colours, laughter, and unspoken emotions between people. Gulzaari is about that moment when love quietly blooms amidst the festivities. The colours become metaphors for feelings we sometimes hesitate to express.”

You wrote, composed, and performed the song yourself. What was the most exciting part of the creative journey?

“The most fulfilling aspect was shaping the song from a simple melodic thought into a full sonic landscape. When you write and compose, the emotion is very personal. Recording the vocals felt like completing a circle—almost like telling my own story through music.”

Your listeners and followers know you primarily as a singer, but you’ve also begun exploring poetry. Does that influence your songwriting?

“Absolutely. Poetry allows me to think in images and emotions rather than just lyrics. That sensibility naturally seeps into my songwriting. In Gulzaari, the words are intentionally visual—almost like painting with colours and feelings.”

What do you hope listeners feel when they hear “Gulzaari”?

“I hope the song makes people pause for a moment and smile. If someone listens to it and feels the warmth of spring, the nostalgia of colours, or even the tenderness of love—then I think the song has done its job.”

With Gulzaari, Soumita Saha once again demonstrates her ability to weave lyrical storytelling with evolving musical forms. The track not only celebrates the spirit of Holi but also reaffirms her growing presence as a singer-songwriter who is unafraid to experiment while staying rooted in melody.

As the colours of spring spread across the air, Gulzaari arrives like a musical bouquet—vivid, romantic and unmistakably Soumita.
