As everyone is looking forward to celebrating Dhanteras, celebs too are all geared up. The eventful day is November 10. Speaking about the special pious occasion, stars speak on the significance of Dhanteras and what they plan to buy this year and why. Here’s what they said:
Sheeba Akashdeep
Dhanteras to me is Lakshmi Puja. I perform Lakshmi and Kuber puja on the pious occasion of Dhanteras. I try to buy something new, although it could be anything but I prefer to buy metallic things. I have heard since childhood that we must purchase metal crockery on this special occasion. Along with that I also buy silver or gold coins specifically for performing the puja.

Dhanteras holds personal significance as it’s the beginning of the Diwali festival, which is a special time for me to come together with my family and loved ones. It’s a reminder to express gratitude and seek blessings, prosperity and abundance, not just in terms of material wealth but also in our overall well-being. As this day also carries a tradition of buying new items I might buy something special for me and my family to mark the occasion and wish them good luck.

Every festival in India has its own significance. In fact, Dhanteras is celebrated aiming to increase the prosperity and wealth of a person. People intend to buy a new vehicle. They even go out and buy new utensils, they prefer to buy something or the other. If a person is really poor and can’t afford anything costly, then they prefer to buy a broom. But the significance of this festival is to buy something new in that particularity. Because it is believed that it works like cleansing your house removing the evil or toxic energies. It brings a different luck and culture to your home. This Dhanteras I am planning to buy something of gold which I was not able to do earlier.

I have always heard from my parents in childhood about how the devas and asuras performed the Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean) for amrita, and then Dhanvantari (the physician of the Gods and an incarnation of Vishnu) emerged carrying a jar of elixir on the day of Dhanteras. That is the significance of Dhanteras. We celebrate it because the goddess Lakshmi brings wealth and prosperity. I often buy a gold coin on the pious occasion of Dhanteras. But this time I am planning to buy the Shiva-Parvati Statue. So, let’s see what happens this year.

Dhanteras is a very auspicious festival. We pray for health and prosperity for each other. It is very Important to also be thankful for everything we are blessed with. We’ve been taught to invest in valuables for the future so as a ritual we do buy good as good is a sign of prosperity.
