Jasvir Kaur Rababan Receives MBE In New Year 2020
The Vice President of the Raj Academy Conservatoire and founder of Kaur Voices, Jasvir Kaur Rabban has been awarded an MBE by Her Majesty the Queen for services to faith, mental wellness through music therapy and reviving traditional Sikh Music globally.
It is a matter of great pride for the global Sikh community to see the world’s first female Rabab player recognized with such a prestigious honor. The Sikh Rabab is a musical instrument created by the First Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak, used to develop the art of inner communication and peace by balancing human emotions. This instrument amongst other Sikh instruments was on the verge of extinction until the establishment of the non-profit, Raj Academy Conservatoire, the world’s leading school of Sikh Music education dedicated to the revival and preservation of Sikh Music Therapy.
Raj Academy Conservatoire was founded in September 1994 by the esteemed Professor Surinder Singh to revive, preserve and promote the lost musical heritage of the Sikhs. The unwavering dedication and hard work of Professor Surinder Singh and the Raj Academy team has allowed this music and its teachings to be revived and reborn once again in the west to share, educate and spread mental wellness through Sikh music therapy.
Jasvir Kaur Rababan is a passionate and dedicated young woman who has become a role model for many through her commitment to serve and support the community. She has ventured most of her professional life into grassroots work with Raj Academy, by sharing the importance of mental health through workshops, panels, and public engagement. Throughout the span of nearly two decades, she has garnered extensive experience in the field of music therapy as an academic, throughout which period of time she has helped thousands of individuals across the world to adopt the practice of music therapy as an alternative coping method to deal with stress.
Jasvir established Kaur Voices in late 2018 with a growing community of more than 800 online members, as non-profit creating safe spaces that provide heart-centered advocacy to courageous individuals who have endured trauma. Creatively driven, Jasvir also serves as the Executive Producer of a multi-award-winning documentary entitled, “Sikh Musical Heritage – The Untold Story”.
No matter what venture she undertakes, Jasvir Kaur Rababan’s primary mission is to
awaken people to their greatest potential and show them that personal transformation isn’t only possible, it’s inevitable.
On hearing the news, Jasvir said
“I’m truly humbled by the honor, and it is deeply heartwarming to know that the hard work and dedication of the entire Raj Academy and Kaur Voices team has been recognized with such prestige. I hope that eventually, more people will come to learn about the work we do in music therapy and get to experience the benefits to help reduce individual and communal stress across the globe.”
