VISAFF 2019 Bigger and Better Than Ever Before!

VISAFF 2019: Bigger and Better Than Ever Before! Since its inception, the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival (VISAFF) has existed to provide
a platform to promote filmmaking talent within the diaspora, and this year is no different. The VISAFF team has curated 40+ films, which includes 20 Canadian films!

The 2019 festival runs from Nov 14-17, and we’ve got a sneak peek at their film and event line-up, which we know you don’t want to miss! Opening the festival this year is The Illegal – a gritty and realistic story of young man working to support his family while staying in the United States as an undocumented worker. Presenting the film on opening night are director Danish Renzu and one of the films’ stars, Iqbal Theba (Glee, Green Book). Other notable films included in the lineup are Jhalki, a Hindi-language drama film featuring Bollywood star, Boman Irani, crime thriller Laal Kabootar, which is Pakistan’s official selection for the 2019 Academy Awards, and The Massacre at Amritsar.

Beyond the films, VISAFF includes a whole host of workshops ranging in topics from acting, production, and casting, with an exclusive screenplay writing workshop led by critically acclaimed director, screenwriter and producer, Danish Renzu. The festival will also include it’s second annual business and networking event, the Biz and Tech day, to help community engagement and building amongst industry players in post-production, digital entertainment, and interactive arts.
