Meera Gandhi and The Giving Back Foundation Supports New York City’s India Day Parade
August 17th, New York City: As India celebrates its 73rd Independence Day, thousands of people took to the streets of Manhattan to participate in the 39th India Day Parade. Put on by the Federation of Indian Associations, the parade celebrates the best of the Indian diaspora in the Tri-state metro.
One of the supporters for this year includes The Giving Back Foundation, a non-profit helmed by TV host and author, Meera Gandhi. Her foundation worked in conjunction with the Times Group of India to first host an intimate dinner party Thursday night at her historic townhome in Manhattan which was attended by the parade’s Grand Marshal, actor and entrepreneur Suniel Shetty. Other guests included actors Rishi Kapoor, his wife Neetu Singh, Times Now anchor Navika Kumar and Times Now COO Nikhil Gandhi and Times Now DGM International Marketing Ajay Kulkarni.
Miss Gandhi says,
“It’s such an honor to be a part of the 39th India Day Parade and we are very proud to support this demonstration of Indian pride amongst the diaspora. The size of the parade and the high profile of the participants shows just how far we have come as a community.”
On Sunday, Ms Gandhi joined Mr Shivshankar and Mr Kulkarni along with actress Hina Khan aboard the Times Now float. She was wearing lehnga by Heritage India Fashions. As the parade made its way down Madison avenue towards the entertainment stage in Madison Square Park, thousands of proud Indians lined the streets waving a tableau of Indian flags. Also honored at the parade were Gulshan Grover and Adam Silver of the NBA.
