With a collection that aimed to capture that fleeting magical moment before day ends and night begins, Jayanti Reddy’s collection “The Twilight Zone” at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018, dazzled the audience with its high-octane creativity and fashion statements.

With a collection that had a remarkable balance between elegance, aesthetics, comfort and above all practicality, Nupur Kanoi presented “Protea” at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018. Exploring the eclecticism of Cape Town, with its nautical, bohemian and chic aspect, the designer revealed her latest line of garments to a very appreciative audience.

Deriving its inspiration from the unusual bloom of Cape Town and its picturesque beauty, the designer used clothes as her canvas to showcase a striking line of ensembles. From early luncheon at the lush green vineyards to sunsets by the bay, the collection with its immense creativity had the right offerings. Highlighting the bit of her penchant for the whimsical in the embroidery, each silhouette was totally unconventional. Nupur made sure to showcase the perfect combination of style, elegance, energy, enthusiasm and glamour.

Adding premium quality embellishments, the vibrant and intricate glass beadwork was interestingly used to create optical illusion-like embroideries. Giving the garments a modern twist and yet retaining their originality, beadwork with geometrical floral patterns was combined with native botanical prints to create a striking fashion statement.

Enchanting the audience with her design aesthetics that were every bit wearable, the essence of androgyny was seen throughout. Besides being spectacularly innovative and high on the glamour quotient, the main highlight was on the striped and checked Bandhani that was inspired by the endless wine plantations that Cape Town is renowned for.

The cobalt blue Mochiwork kimono jacket and blouse, with nautical Bandhani flared pants were one of the key highlights of the collection. Creating the perfect fashion statement, was a dark green Bandhani oversized shirt with vest and joggers. The green and white high neck Bandhani blouse, the luxuriously embroidered scalloped sleeve kaftan and the multi-coloured embroidered printed maxis offered a variety in embellishments.

Ensuring that the ensembles with ethnic fusion were inventive yet commercial, sharp tailoring was beautifully entwined with conventional fits. Reflecting the legacy of the land that dissolves boundaries and heritage, Nupur made sure that her body art was deliciously decadent and functionally fashionable with a 70’s vibe. Experimenting with the fabrics, the designer used velvet and metallic, to give the silhouettes an edgy and appealing look. When it comes to garments that will leave a lasting impact on the audience, Nupur Kanoi’s “Protea” collection will once again create waves in fashion circles.
