Sa Dance Company presents “Mandala”

Sa Dance Company is debuting in Los Angeles at Optimist Studios on October 27th, 2018. If you are in SoCal you should check it out! Payal’s choreographies aim to expose a deeper understanding of Indian dance culture in a modern context. Contemporary artist Jessie Oh Paul, Babbu, Neha Assar and others will be presenting at the show.

About the Sa Dance Company

The Sa Dance Company, founded in 2009 by Artistic Director Payal Kadakia Pujji, is a contemporary Indian dance company that expresses the essence of Indian-American identity. Through movement and music, Sa weaves together the Indian heritage of its dancers and traditional Indian folk and classical dance forms such as Garba, Kathak, Bharatanatyam, and Bollywood, with western aesthestics and dances forms such as Jazz, Ballet, and Contemporary. With Sa, grace, beauty, and layered choreography come together to create a dance experience bound to impress.

The name “Sa” originates in the foundations of Indian classical music, in which “Sa” is both the first and last note of the octave. Similarly, the company’s creative process starts with dances and stories that have passed down over generations before infusing them with their own experiences to create new, yet familiar dances and stories to carry into the future.

The company has performed at several notable venues and dance festivals, including Lincoln Center, The Ailey Citigroup Theater, Summerstage, Battery Downtown Dance Festival, MAD museum, and more. The company is excited to be expanding to Los Angeles this year and continue to share its work on a national scale.
