Actor Sidharth Malhotra attended the TVS Apache Spartan event in Mumbai yesterday alongside Sunil Gavaskar, and was asked about Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the final match in her quest for gold.
Phogat was heartbreakingly disqualified from the Gold medal match yesterday after weighing in 100 grams over the weight requirement ahead of the match. Several Bollywood celebrities have been speaking out against the decision in Phogat’s favor, and Sidharth Malhotra has shared his hope that Phogat is allowed to compete for the Silver medal, and says that he is “still rooting for her”.
Phogat’s team has sent in a request to the IOC asking them if she can still compete for the Silver medal match later this week, and hope to hear back from the Olympics committee today.
