Disha Mudda, a CA final student, singer, and model walking for charity, spoke with us about her journey to reaching her creative aspirations. She’s currently pursuing a degree in Chartered Accountancy while diving into the creative arts as well, and explained how she prioritizes her studies as well as events.

The prep for singing events is pretty routine for Disha, including an everyday riyaaz or practice session. She started her training in early childhood under the tutelage of guru Suresh Wadkar. Disha then went on to learn under Padma Shri Padmaja Phenany Joglekar and the late Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Veteran music composer Vipin Reshammiya has also worked with Disha to help perfect her musical notes.
“My practice that I do is an everyday chore for me, so that is not specific to any sort of event. So I’m always ready, basically! With respect to a particular show, that song and flow is done with the musicians and the entire team.”
While believing in giving back to society, Disha has performed for various charitable events and NGO’s, and has been recognized for her philanthropic activities. She has mainly been associated with the blind welfare organization and the Rotary club for the past nine years.
“If time comes, and I get any sort of opportunity for any sort of charitable activities, I would definitely take it up, because happiness is happiness, it’s in whatever way I can contribute to it for the underprivileged I will take it up.”

Disha comes from an incredibly talented family, and her father, a Wharton graduate finance professional with 25+ years of experience, passionately runs an event management company named Mumbai Beats that helps organize events and shows.
“Mumbai Beats conducts musical events in USA and India since 2008. Mumbai Beats has organized shows of Asha Bosle, Sonu Nigam, Shreya Goshal, and more, in association with Shankara Eye Foundation and BMM mostly for charitable purposes.”
For Disha, music isn’t just an art form, but a form of meditation.
“What music means to me – music is like prayer to me, it’s a form of meditation to me, it keeps me grounded and I just get such immense happiness from it, so I feel like why not just extrapolate that happiness to the world. Music is a proven form of therapy, and a lot of people enjoy music. So if I could extend that happiness that I derive into the world for people, why not?”
While taking up these singing opportunities, Disha is also simultaneously studying for her chartered accountancy degree, which is one of the toughest degrees to pursue in India. She credits her parents Arjun and Seema, and her younger brother Darshan for being a wonderful support system as she’s taken on creative opportunities.
“So we divide the work! My work in respect to music is that I’ll take care of the singing part, and they take care of the technicalities.”

In addition to being a singer, Mudda walks for fashion ramp events as well, and has even filmed an advertisement.
“I just have this creative enthusiastic side to me which wants to do everything possible, and touchwood, I’ve been fortunate that I’ve gotten those opportunities. I’ve also done a shoot with Hrithik Roshan, so I’ve also tried my hand at acting! I’m constantly finding opportunities, and I’m so full of energy, and give my best to them.”
The ramp walks that Mudda does are also partly done for charity in association with fashion designer and politician Shaina NC and to raise donations, which she terms as “glamor with a purpose”.
With everything Mudda does, managing time for friends and relaxing can be difficult, but she always finds some time in the day.
“I love watching movies, and that’s how I de-stress, in fact I love cooking as well. I love trying new dishes just for the sake of it. I also have a great group of friends from school, we’ve known each other for 17-18 years, and we’re a group of six girls, and meeting them is a huge part of my de-stressing routine.”
