Actress Rupali Ganguly has become an instantly recognised face across the globe following the success of Anupamaa. At a recent event, the actress made a powerful statement that truly needs to reach the relevant authorities. Read on to know more below!

This past week, the National Film Awards took place, celebrating and honouring films and film industries across India. At the event, Rupali was asked about Smriti Irani and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returning to our screens, to which the actress expressed her excitement. She elaborated that the television industry does not receive national recognition the way films and other industries do, and with Irani’s return, the medium might finally get the relevant attention, even from those in government.
She explained that when film, content creators, and other industries can receive recognition in the form of a national award, then why not the television industry? Rupali Ganguly added that even during COVID, actors and crews continued shooting while the film industries paused their productions. When a film actor steps out for a few days of shooting, it makes headlines, but television actors, who worked consistently even during the pandemic, didn’t receive the same spotlight. The actress urged the government to look into this, noting that their validation would mean a great deal to the industry.
Rupali Ganguly’s statement reflects the injustice the Indian television industry has been facing for years. From facing stereotypes to receiving little recognition, the industry quietly and bravely pushes through it all. Hopefully, her words make people ask: why has this industry, one that has been around for decades, not received its due?
It’s also important to note that Indian television shows give viewers outside of India a glimpse into the everyday lives of common people across the country. The television industry boasts a stellar set of individuals who work hard and display a strong work ethic every single day. They continue to inspire viewers worldwide, and a National Award for the Television Industry is most definitely the need of the hour. Because honestly, it’s about time.
