Myra Singh is a talented and hardworking young actress known for her work across mediums. She speaks about her journey in the industry and what its like working with Kajol in The Trial season 2.
Is it difficult to manage work and studies at the same time? How do you balance both?
Well, yes, honestly it was difficult. If I said it was very easy, I’d be dishonest with myself. During the shooting of Trial Season Two, I remember giving my term examinations at the same time. In between takes, I would sit with my books, and every day I had an exam. Directly after school, I would head to the shoot, then study again, and prepare for the next paper. So yes, it was tough but I truly believe that everything that challenges me only makes me stronger and more alive.
So far from all you have worked with, who is that one artist you have learnt a lot from and why?
Oh, that’s a tough one because as an actor you learn something new every single day from everyone around you. But if I had to pick one, it would be Nawazuddin Siddiqui Sir. He’s phenomenal. Just watching him perform and actually getting to work with him was such a big thing for me.
I remember during one of my close-up shots, he was only supposed to give his partial face. It was a very serious scene, but he kept making funny faces, just to try and get me to laugh. I somehow held it together and finished the shot, and then we both laughed about it later. That’s the thing about him, he’s not just an incredible actor, but also so down to earth and fun to be around.
How do you select your work? Do your parents help in the selection?
Well, definitely my parents have a huge role not just in selecting my work, but overall. I actually call my mom my momager because she’s literally like my manager. She handles everything, supports me, and always motivates me. My parents honestly know better than me right now, and since I’m still young and learning, I just follow their guidance and steps.
One memory from the shoot that stands out with Kajol? How was she to work with?
Honestly, every moment with Kajol Ma’am was unforgettable. She has the most amazing sense of humour always laughing, always making everyone smile. Sometimes it was even difficult to shoot with her because I’d start laughing in the middle of a serious scene just by looking at her. I still remember my first day I was completely starstruck. I grew up loving Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and suddenly the actor I admired most was playing my mother on set.
But she made everything so easy. She’s such a fun, supportive person who cracks the best jokes and is so down to earth. I’ll never forget this one moment we were about to shoot a close-up, and the hair stylist was nowhere to be found. Kajol Ma’am just stepped in and fixed my hair herself, and it looked perfect. That’s when I realised she’s not just an incredible actor, but also an amazing human being.
