Tumm Se Tumm Tak Review: A Subtle and Soulful Return to Pure Romance on Television

Spread the love

Indian television and romance have become synonymous since the beginning. However, in recent years, the essence of romance and true love has been lost on television as exhausting love triangles took over. Studio LSD and Zee TV have now taken a step forward with their newest offering Tumm Se Tumm Tak. Featuring Sharad Kelkar and Niharika Chouksey, it premiered a few weeks ago, and it’s now time for the show’s report card!

Set in Delhi, Tumm Se Tumm Tak tells the story of Anu Sharma, a young woman from a middle-class family who is studying, and aims to address and correct all the challenges her family faces after she graduates. Right in the first episode, she crosses paths with Arya Vardhan, one of the world’s most successful and influential businessmen. Arya’s group of companies includes a telecommunications company and a textile manufacturing company, to name a few. While the two come from opposite financial backgrounds, they realise they share a lot in common especially when Anu reminds Arya about the real joys of life that lie in the smallest of moments.
To add to their newly found friendship, Anu’s commentary on the value of two rupees for a common man inspires Arya to launch an eight-rupee recharge package for consumers instead of a ten-rupee one. The idea and thought prove to be a hit among consumers. As Anu and Arya bond over the simple joys of life, Arya becomes more impressed with Anu’s potential and mindset. He then hires her to join his company. Their love story, and how their age difference will be met by society, is what will form the rest of the story.
Story-wise, it is commendable that we have a show purely focusing on the love story between two individuals and how exactly they bond. One of the things that amazed me most is how they put a brake on introducing us to Arya’s family and past. The makers decided to build these characters properly and help the audience connect with Arya and Anu before delivering the deeper conflict of the story.
In terms of performances, I first have to say—Thank You Sharad Kelkar for returning to television! After watching the actor play Arya with such finesse and deliver the character so effortlessly, it’s clear the audience and medium were only at a loss without him! This definitely has the potential to be one of Kelkar’s most cherished roles. Niharika Chouksey rises to the challenge of this story built upon an age difference, and the actress exceeds our expectations. She carefully portrays her character, enabling us to fall in love with Anu in every way.
Soma Rathod is another strong force in the show with her portrayal of Pushpa, and skilfully presents the natural dilemmas mothers’ face, while adding humour to break through and ease the viewers as they watch.
Sameer Patil plays Gopal, Anu’s father, and delivers an endearing performance. His character too comes with a past of naivety and betrayal, but Patil balances that with Gopal’s love and support for his daughter. Dolly Chawla is commendable as Meera, and we hope to see the different layers in her character. Meanwhile, Nasirr Khan delivers another excellent performance, and you cannot expect any less from the seasoned actor. Actress Vandana Pathak is yet to enter the show as Arya’s mother. As I mentioned above, the makers have been very careful in presenting their characters.
A huge age gap is something that always gets people talking in society, with it being frowned upon for the most part, due to many bad examples of it. It will be interesting to see how this sensitive matter is dealt with on the show.
Tumm Se Tumm Tak succeeds in sticking to the roots of romance on Indian television – which is love, compatibility, and understanding. While the character of Meera is the only concerning factor for most of us who are frustrated (and exhausted) by vamps and love triangles on television, we hope there are limits to her antics and that she is presented as carefully as the other characters.
With powerful and breezy opening weeks, Tumm Se Tumm Tak earns an 8/10!
Tumm Se Tumm Tak airs on Zee TV across India, South Africa, the UK, and other regions. The show also streams globally on Zee5.
