Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi – a title that echoes in the heart of every Indian, is more than just a title. It carries the weight of being the most iconic show in Indian television history. Starring Smriti Irani, Amar Upadhyay, and a host of seasoned actors, the show is returning to our screens almost seventeen years after it bid viewers farewell.
I don’t think the importance of the show in popular culture and in Indian homes needs to be explained, but just imagine; a show achieving the highest ratings, the highest acclaim from fans and critics—and it did all this long before the social media and digital age! I can confidently say that this show can even be considered the foundation of the Indian television we know and love today.
As the show returns with a new story and aims to capture the hearts of a new generation, Star Plus has revealed the first promo. The promo beautifully demonstrates how a fictional show and its characters became a part of real people’s lives. From referencing the iconic opening theme song to highlighting how families watched it together, and how it helped keep them together, the show is given a truly worthy salute.
We then see the iconic courtyard of Shantiniketan with a Tulsi plant, followed by the first glimpse of the beloved Tulsi. After worshipping the plant, she announces her and the Virani family’s return, acknowledging the 25-year relationship they share with the audience.
The promo is the talk of the entire industry, with many extending their best wishes to the team. It’s also important to note that this time, the show will be viewed by an international audience as well. The original aired at a time when Indian channels weren’t as widely available across the globe as they are now.
As we gear up to welcome the Virani family back into our homes, we look forward to witnessing the legacy grow even bigger, now in a completely different landscape.
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi will premiere on 29 July 2025 at 10:30 p.m. on Star Plus in India. International timeslots are yet to be revealed, so stay tuned!
