Zyada Mat Udd Review: A Breezy Ride that’s Cleared for Takeoff!

Spread the love

Produced by Saregama India, Zyada Mat Udd is a comedy show airing on Colors for the past two weekends. The show features an ensemble cast including Shehzad Shaikh, Helly Shah, Aishwarya Sakhuja, Gaurav Amlani, Bhawsheel Singh Sahni, and Rewati Chetri. Let’s find out how this show fares according to us!

We meet Goldie Khuranna, a rich brat living a high life partying on a boat. Life suddenly comes down heavy on him when his father dies and leaves their airline business in his name. While there are prying eyes who want to snatch the company away, Goldie’s realisation makes him keep the company in his name, but he has to prove to shareholders that he is capable enough to head the company. To do so, he begins his work as a flight attendant to learn how the industry works. To hide his real identity, he adopts the name Gopal and ends up with a rather interesting crew. The unusual events during the flight and between the crew members form the crux of the story.
The show succeeds in the characterization of the crew members. Every crew member is unique and gives viewers a taste of a diverse India. Bringing this out more is the performances backing the roles. Helly Shah owns her character of Kajal, the Bebo of the crew. Aishwarya Sakhuja perfectly blends humour with villainy. Rewati Chetri is sincere and sweet in the role of Liza, while Bhawsheel Singh Sahni is often a scene stealer as Chanpreet aka Touchy. Gaurav Amlani makes Anees relatable and relevant, especially given his nature of rapping his words. His crush on Kajal is quite fun too! We have seen Shehzad Shaikh in intense roles before this, but still, with Goldie/Gopal, it was love right from the first episode. He brings out the softness, humour and confusion in Gopal so well, and you cannot help but root for him. The differences in the characters make each of them so special and contribute to a flavourful show. The pilots are a married couple (Tanu Khan and Vishal Malhotra), and their domestic issues may be a breakaway but add to the mayhem.
It’s refreshing to watch a comedy show after a long time on a global Hindi GEC, and the humour is up-to-date and clean, making it a family entertainer. The show also makes references to real-life people and brands, which we often miss due to the constraints in other prime-time shows. The writers and creatives smartly intertwine the passengers of the flight with the crew, testing their dynamic as a group and as individual flight attendants. Weirdly, Goldie’s dead dad appearing, again and again, does not seem odd at all, once again – smart!  We can’t help but think how it would be if celebrities showed up as passengers in cameos.
Overall, this flight lands safely. It is always commendable when makers, writers, and channels dare to do something different. It may be a comedy show but the characters have relatable qualities, which can lead to an emotional connection with the viewer. Just two episodes a week are not enough because we want more, but the bi-weekly format deserves a resurrection, so we’ll try our best to be patient!
Zyada Mat Udd is a MUST-WATCH, and the show airs every Saturday and Sunday on Colors TV worldwide.
