The story’s concept involves a baby girl who was born into the affluent Thakur family in Varanasi, but her father, Anand, ‘swopped’ her with a baby boy, as his mother Rukmani always believed that a girl child is a burden to a family. Rescuing the baby from the Ganges is Ganga Prasad, a weaver who is disabled, and he names her Doree. Ganga faces numerous hurdles in raising Doree, but his ability to nurture and love Doree has made her into a brave and promising little girl.
Through destiny, Doree and Ganga cross paths with the Thakur family, and we learn that Ganga is the son of Rukmani’s twin sister, Kailashi. Doree also forms an unexpected yet beautiful bond with Manasi, her biological mother. Doree faces numerous challenges as she reaches new phases of her life, often made fun of for her unclear roots. It is clear that Doree will change the fate of her very own Thakur house and will crush the poor mindset of Rukmani, Anand and the family.
Doree succeeds in presenting the concept of the show focusing on the empowerment of the girl child. The show deserves praise for maintaining the core concept and not changing routes under the pressures of television. The performances of the show are also nothing short of impeccable!
Mahi Bhanushali is impressive as Doree. Seeing a child actor showing such maturity and depth in her character is remarkable, and she has a bright journey ahead, Doree and beyond. Sudha Chandran once again delivers a rock-solid performance, and it is a delight to see her in the two contrasting roles of Rukmani and Kailashi. Amar Upadhyay as Ganga Prasad is also one of the finest performances on our screens. The actor who has amazed us with many roles over the years, has reached a new benchmark with Ganga. Toral Rasputra aptly delivers the grace and maternal feelings of Manasi. Her scenes with Doree and chemistry with Ganga are beautiful.
The fantastic performances do not stop here! Anurag Sharma, Soni Singh, Haelyn Shastri and the rest of the cast leave you in awe.
A unique, solid story paired with fine performers makes Doree the gem it is. You will find many heart-warming moments along the way too! If you haven’t watched it yet, we suggest you start now!
Doree airs every day on Colors TV at 8.30 p.m. in India and South Africa, 8 p.m. in the UK, and ET at 8 p.m. and PT at 9 p.m. in the US.
