The show opened by showing the audience how a conspiracy led to Ashoka and his mother, Queen Dharma being separated from King Bindusara and the Magadha kingdom. Ashoka faced the harsh realities of the world as he grew up and slowly lost all faith in love. Meanwhile Kaurwaki, a princess, was born in Magadha’s rival kingdom, Kalinga, and grows up believing in love and caring about others.
King Bindusara and Queen Diana’s son, Sushima, is next in line for the throne and mostly appears arrogant and disrespectful. Ashoka visits the palace but does not come in front of his father. The palace of Kalinga also has its fair share of politics and evil ploys from Kaurwaki’s uncle and cousin. In terms of the episodes so far, Ashoka and Kaurwaki have crossed paths, but their opposing thoughts make love seem quite impossible between the two at this point.
Pracchand Ashok, is presented in a way that is easy to understand and well demonstrates how the intricacies in Ashoka and Kaurwaki’s lives can be quite relatable to viewers even today. The cast is delightful to watch, with Adnan Khan being quite noteworthy as he brings out the strength, charm and even humour of Ashoka. Mallika Singh looks graceful and deals with the gentleness of Kaurwaki very well. Seeing Manoj Kolhatkar back in the role of Chanakya after the successful ‘Chandra Nandini’ is great to watch too. Rakshanda Khan is set to give another memorable performance as she carries out Queen Helena with the panache needed. The rest of the cast is also fantastic to watch, and we wait to see more of them.
Overall, Pracchand Ashok succeeds in presenting a part of history to a modern audience and makes you want to follow the journey of Ashoka and Kaurwaki’s love story and their journey to creating history.
Pracchand Ashok airs Monday to Friday on Colors TV worldwide.
