International Youth Day: Celebs share problems that plague the youth of today

This International Youth Day, celebrities share the biggest challenge faced by the youth of the country today.

The most significant issue facing today’s youth is undoubtedly the pervasive misguidance stemming from various sources such as media, social media, and other external influences. This overwhelming confusion, coupled with the multitude of opinions they encounter through these channels, has effectively clouded their capacity to make well-informed decisions. Their decision-making abilities have been compromised due to the constant barrage of external factors, hindering their personal growth and development. Undoubtedly, social media plays a pivotal role in this scenario. However, I firmly believe that if we focus on educating our youth about its responsible and constructive usage, we can mitigate its detrimental effects. Failure to do so will continue to erode their mindset and hinder their potential to create a meaningful and purposeful life for themselves.

The current generation is grappling with a significant issue: the pervasive problem of comparison. In today’s hyper-connected world, where social media platforms dominate and personal lives are often displayed for all to see, the temptation to compare oneself to others has reached unprecedented heights. This relentless comparison culture can lead to a myriad of negative consequences, affecting both mental and emotional well-being. The comparison culture extends beyond just appearances and experiences. Young people often find themselves measuring their academic achievements, career progress, and even personal relationships against those of their peers. The pressure to excel in every facet of life, driven by the need to “keep up” with others, can lead to burnout and a skewed sense of self-worth. The fear of missing out on opportunities or falling behind can also drive individuals to make choices that aren’t aligned with their authentic aspirations, further exacerbating the issue.

Solutions: Encourage young people to reflect on their values, strengths, and aspirations. This will help them to develop a more positive and authentic sense of self-worth, which will make them less likely to compare themselves to others. Cultivate gratitude for what one has rather than focusing on what others have. This can shift the perspective from scarcity to abundance, fostering contentment. Encourage responsible use of social media and digital platforms. This means being mindful of the content that is consumed and shared, and avoiding comparing oneself to others. Shift the focus from external validation to internal growth. This means focusing on one’s own personal development and achievements, rather than seeking approval from others. It’s important to young people understand that life is a journey with ups and downs. Success and progress are individual, and they don’t always align with external benchmarks.

In my view, the youth faces two fundamental challenges. Firstly, their impressionability often leads them astray, as they draw inspiration from questionable sources. Secondly, many tend to evade confronting problems directly, opting for escapism. This behavior can lead them to unfavourable associations and potentially harmful behaviors. A potential solution to address both issues, in my opinion, is the practice of meditation. Meditation holds significant importance as it enables individuals to understand themselves, grasp their personalities, and cultivate inner strength to confront challenges head-on, rather than resorting to escapism. By embracing meditation and seeking proper guidance, the youth can find the motivation and guidance needed to navigate the right path.

The most significant challenge facing the youth is the uncertainty surrounding career decisions. In my perspective, young individuals should fearlessly venture into diverse opportunities, recognizing that not attempting is synonymous with failure. Prioritising career exploration holds paramount importance, as it propels life forward and shapes one’s path. It’s essential to emphasise the significance of a purposeful career over adopting a casual approach to life.

The primary concern among the youth is aimlessly dedicating excessive time to social media. While social media can be a valuable tool, its misuse prevails. Emotional detachment and shallowness have become evident. It is imperative to utilise social media judiciously, as excessive indulgence in any activity proves detrimental.

The prominent challenge facing the youth is their inclination for instant gratification and a “know-it-all” mindset. While confidence is valuable, it should be founded on substantial knowledge and learning. Their desire for swift and unorthodox achievements often leads to confusion due to overwhelming information exposure. The excessive distractions and abundance of stimuli at a young age risk burnout. These complex circumstances underscore the toughness of the era in which they live.

The current state of Indian youth is disheartening, with a noticeable lack of guidance and direction. It is concerning to witness even 13 and 14-year-olds getting caught up in drug use and romantic relationships. The prevailing issue with the new generation lies in their excessive overconfidence and questionable lifestyles. Comparatively, the previous generation appeared less confident and more insecure. I recently came across an interview with a well-known cricketer who mentioned his mother’s wish for a secure government job. This stands in stark contrast to the current generation’s unwavering self-assurance in achieving grand goals. It appears that there is a disconnection between our culture and roots, leaving the new generation in a state of confusion regarding their career and personal life. Instances of youngsters entering relationships at the age of 12 and experiencing breakups at 13, followed by association with the wrong crowd or falling into drug addiction, highlight the urgency of finding a balance. While we take pride in having one of the world’s youngest populations, the crucial question remains: What are we doing to guide and support our youth? It is disheartening that a significant proportion, around 7 out of 10, lack confidence today. This imbalance between the rapid pace of the new generation and the wisdom of the past needs immediate attention.

The youth holds the key to our nation’s future, and education serves as a vital pathway to economic, societal, and personal progress. While each individual is unique, dedication and discipline can overcome any challenge. Making well-informed decisions and defining clear aspirations pave the way. Awareness and determination mitigate difficulty, requiring concerted effort. India’s growth hinges on the seriousness of its youth. The nation faces unemployment, soaring expenses, and heightened competition due to the influence of social media. Insecurities and struggles breed mental health concerns, hindering progress. A contented mindset fosters a better lifestyle, culminating in a stronger nation. To truly prosper, one must focus on self-improvement without succumbing to unnecessary competition. While drawing inspiration, avoiding insecurity is crucial. A collective commitment from the youth can lead India to remarkable heights.

Unemployment is a significant issue. The youth need work and jobs. Although opportunities have increased with new sectors, the demand and supply don’t match. More job opportunities need to be created. Empty minds without work lead to a financial mess and can even trigger crime among youth.

I feel today’s youth should prioritize themselves initially, as the current generation has grown more reliant on technology and online activities. I lack positivity about our direction, particularly concerning the youth. They’ve become quite dependent and unable to act independently. If the internet fails, their actions falter. The youth’s cognitive engagement has declined. Depression emerges, often unrecognized. The new generation ignores advice, convinced of their rightness, and excessive internet reliance harms our youth. They must embrace diligent efforts coupled with ingenuity, as this work approach is vital. Consequently, anxiety’s surge affects the youth. Mental well-being necessitates attention.

I think drug addiction is a major issue because when people aren’t getting what they want professionally, personally, and academically I have seen youth in Mumbai getting addicted to drugs instead of fighting their depression and anxiety. Their health is affected, so the major problem of today’s youth is drug addiction. People tend to stay away from such individuals and so they wind up in the same toxic circle as them.
