In a poignant exploration of the lives of sex workers, Colors TV has unveiled the promo for their upcoming show, “Neerja: Ek Nayi Pehchaan,” featuring the immensely talented actress Sneha Wagh in the lead role. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Kolkata’s red-light district, the show aims to shed light on the social acceptability and challenges faced by women sex workers. Sneha Wagh portrays the character of a sex worker and mother, passionately endeavoring to shield her daughter, Neerja, from the same fate.
As Sneha Wagh delved into her character, she shared her profound emotions:
“Neerja has been a huge learning platform for me. When I signed up for the show, I had a feeling that this would be an emotional ride. After my research on Sonagachi, I was heartbroken. I got goosebumps seeing the condition of the women there.” Sneha added.
She further expressed,
“With Neerja, we are making an attempt to not only bring awareness but also try our bit in bringing about change. Women’s empowerment also means giving proper attention to such delicate issues. I hope women in Sonagachi get the strength to evolve from their conditions and have a normal life.”
As audiences eagerly await the premiere of Colors Tv’s “Neerja: Ek Nayi Pehchaan“, the show aims to raise awareness about sex workers’ issues, empowering women and promoting social transformation through Sonagachi’s complexities. ‘Neerja’ is slated to premiere on Monday, July 10 at 8:30, Monday-Sunday on Colors Tv starring Sneha Wagh alongside, Kamya Punjabi and Mayra Vaikul.
