Gowns with a train and a bit of shine tend to get dismissed as red carpet only. Usually considered too much for anything less than an awards stage, these five actresses prove otherwise.
Each one leans into length and shimmer without losing shape, and together they make a solid argument for going all out.
Janhvi Kapoor
Janhvi’s love for all things glitter and glimmer is well known. Dressed here in holographic sequins from strap to hem, fitted through the body with a dramatic ruffled train that trails a good few feet behind her, Janhvi literally stops you mid-scroll. The fabric shifts color depending on the light hitting it, which does most of the styling work on its own.
Rakul Preet Singh
Decked up in black sequins head to toe, the shape of Rakul’s dress does the heavy lifting here. A fitted sheath with a thigh high slit and a train that pools at the back rather than sweeping wide, Rakul literally glitters with every ray of light hitting her ensemble. A statement diamond necklace is the only jewelry in the frame and it does complete justice to the outfit.
Shreya Sharma
Shreya Sharma is well-versed with the art of stopping the presses with her outfit choices and this time is no different. Donning a silver sequinned gown built entirely out of scalloped, shell shaped embellishments, and a sheer crystal bodice up top, accompanied by a fishtail hem that pools into a train below the knee, Shreya looks gorgeous, with her fit placing all the emphasis on her slender waist and hip, so the shimmer reads as structure rather than noise. Styled with a diamond ear cuff and a chunky bracelet, the rest of the oomph is brought by Shreya herself.
Shanaya Kapoor
Shanaya Kapoor‘s fashion choices have always intrigued fashion critics, since her choices are not what the trends usually are. They are always different. Here, Shanaya’s outfit is the outlier on shimmer. She rocks an emerald green satin gown that trades sequins for a fluid, floor sweeping train and a gently gathered waist. Understated on its own, but next to four sparkling looks, the plain satin ends up making the loudest statement, and so does Shanaya with her sharp look.
Khushi Kapoor
Khushi Kapoor in a deep red satin ensemble, with a one shoulder neckline and a rosette detail at the bust, with the skirt gathered and draped so it falls asymmetrically into a soft train, is definitely one worthy of a showstopping moment. She accentuates her look with soft waves, minimal jewelry, and the color carries the rest of the look beautifully.
What ties all of these looks these together isn’t the shimmer or the length on its own, it’s that none of them let either take over. The shine sits inside a shape that’s been thought through, and the train adds drama without swallowing the rest of the look. That’s the difference between a gown that photographs well and one that just photographs.
