Netflix has unveiled the first look of Unaccustomed Earth, an upcoming family drama based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story collection of the same name. The series stars Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth as Amit, and is set to premiere on December 17.

Adapted and showrun by Madhuri Shekar, the series follows a multigenerational Indian American community in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts. The story explores themes of love, loss, belonging and relationships across generations.
Freida Pinto plays Parul Chaudhury, a wife and mother who once gave up her college romance to honour her father’s wishes. After receiving a cancer diagnosis, Parul moves her family from India back to Cambridge, a place she considers home.
As she confronts her diagnosis, Parul decides to pursue the life she had once given up. Her choices have an impact on her family and the wider immigrant community around them.
Alongside Freida Pinto and Siddharth, the series stars Indraneil Sengupta as Jai, Parveen Kaur as Nina, Sarayu Blue as Ruma, Justin Bartha as Adam, Adi Roy as Kaushik, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig as Hema and Jayant Kripalani as Pranab.
Unaccustomed Earth is produced by Warner Bros. Television and is scheduled to stream on Netflix from December 17, 2026.
