Rajesh Khanna, the name says it all. Dubbed as the ‘first superstar’ of Bollywood, he was a versatile performer, who was also called ‘Pasha Of Passion’. His acting prowess, smile, and expressions never failed to charm and evoke emotions from the audience. The actor’s debut film Aakhri Khat (1966) was reportedly India’s first official entry to the Oscars in the year 1967. Lovingly known as Kaka, he did 163 films and 17 short films. Today on his 79th birth anniversary, celebrities talk about their favorite film and song of the superstar:

Delnaaz Irani

I think the ’70s was his time and I loved all Rajesh Khanna films. I also loved the songs in his films. The combination of Rajesh Khanna, R D Barman, and Kishore Kumar was just fabulous. I think nobody can forget all their lovely songs. As a child, I loved his films Kati Patang, Aradhan and the film I liked the most is Kudrat, it also starred Hema Malini, Vinod Khanna, and Raj Kumar. It was a lovely film, very well made and had amazing songs. The Rajesh Khanna song that I often listen to is Aate Jaate Khubsurat Awara Sadko. Even my upcoming show has the song because it goes with the theme.

My favorite film of his is Safar, as the story really touched me. And, my favorite Rajesh Khanna song would be “Yeh Shaam Mastani Madhosh kiye jaaye” from his film, Kati Patang.

I’m a big Rajesh Khanna fan. I miss him a lot. I cried a lot the day he died. Anand is my most favorite Rajesh Khanna movie. And the song closest to my heart is Yeh Kya Hua, Kaise Hua from Amar Prem.

My most favorite movie of Rajesh Kanna is Amar Prem. It’s a mature love story, much ahead of its time. Set in the Backdrop of Bengal, he looked dashing in Bengali dhoti-kurta and his character was so wonderful. My most favorite song of Rajesh Khanna would be Chingari Koi Bhadke.

I haven’t watched many of his films, but of all that I have watched Aradhana is my favorite. And my favorite song of Rajesh Khanna would definitely be Roop Tera Mastana.

Of all the movies he has done, my most favorite is Kati Patang. I like the story and performances in the film. And my favorite song is Zindagi Pyar Ka Geet Hai from the movie Sauten.

Aradhana would be my favorite film just because of the scale and the beautiful performance of Rajesh Khanna. And there are so many songs I don’t think any actor has such a variety of beautiful lyrics and beautiful music. That was definitely a golden Era of our Music. So there are so many Rajesh Khanna songs that one loves but I think Zindagi Ke Safar Mein Guzar Jaate is one of my favorite songs.

I have watched his films so many times but of all that I have watched, Aradhana Amar Prem, Anand, and Bawarchi are my favorite movies of his. And if you ask me my favorite songs of Rajesh Khanna, I can’t choose anyone because there are so many. But I think “Chingari koi bhadke Zindagi ke safar mein jo guzar jate hai” and “Mere Naina Sawan Bhadon”, would say are my most favorite songs.
