Kanika Dhillon: The Trailblazer Changing Landscape For Bollywood Writers
Kanika Dhillon has been taking the entertainment industry by storm with her gripping storylines, potent characters, and impactful dialogues. Not only that- within just 2 years the writer has almost given us five memorable films and in addition three movies on the horizon!
While Taapsee Pannu starrer Rashmi Rocket is slated for release on 15th October 2021, Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Raksha Bandhan directed by Anand l Rai n co-written by Himanshu Sharma – The comedy-drama Raksha Bandhan is scheduled for release on 11th August 2022. As if that weren’t enough, the writer has also locked the script for Rajkumar Hirani’s next, along with Abhijaat Joshi -which will star the king, Shah Rukh Khan.
Speaking about giving back-to-back films, with varied genres in such a short span of time and giving memorable characters to Hindi Cinema- the celebrated writer stated,
“I am so excited about all my upcoming projects that are in different stages of being in the works. While Rashmi Rocket is gearing up for release, Raksha Bandhan began shooting in June, and Raju sir along with Abhijaat and Me have locked the script for our project together. The film will go on floors sometime soon. Doing good work is not only an adrenaline booster for me but it also keeps me in a state of flow. Also being a workaholic, explains a large number of films in a short span of time. Given a choice I can work 24 hours a day!”
Kanika’s powerful body of work has been the talk of the town; her movies including Manmarziyaan, Judgemental Hai Kya, Kedarnath, Haseen Dillruba, Guilty – these films have not only had meaningful messages to take home but have also transformed the landscape for women in Indian cinema. She has been credited for bringing stardom to writers and putting a face to the masters behind the screens. Recently, with her Netflix murder mystery Haseen Dillruba, Kanika became the first writer to earn the top billing on the movie’s trailer and poster, opening the floodgates for more writers on the block.
