It was an extreme surprise to hear Punjabi music being played in a non-Punjabi territory of India. Who could even imagine that a man dressed up in a turban and a royal sherwani dancing on the bhangra beats could be a pop star? He was no one else, but Daler Mehndi.

Daler had a distinctive voice who dressed up in turban and long, flowing robes and became an instant hit. No one could imagine a pop star in that attire. But he proved the entire nation wrong. The country was dancing on his mesmerizing music. Whether people in the country knew Punjabi or not? Bolo Tara was on everyone’s mind. The pop singer does not just possess an amazing voice, but also possessed an amazing style. He is dashing and is a smashing hit.

Magnasound signed Daler Mehndi for a three-album contract for three years. Bolo Ta Ra Ra, Mehndi’s debut album, sold over 20 million copies. The album established Daler as a pop star, which also won him the Channel V’s Best Indian Male Pop Artist Award. A year later, his second album under Magnasound, Dardi Rab Rab, was launched. This album surpassed the sales of Bolo Ta Ra Ra. He was nominated in three categories at Channel V Music Awards and won the Channel V Best Indian Male Artist Award.

Fact 1 – Daler Mehndi was born in Patna, on 18th August 1967. He was influenced by music at a very young age by his parents who taught him different ragas and shabads from the GuruGranth Sahib Ji.
